Ibn Khaldun is one of the most notable people in the history of Muslims. His most celebrated work ‘al-Muqaddimah’ which is translated to 'the Introduction' in English is considered as one of the most sublime and intellectual achievements of the middle ages. His wisdom is the most paramount heritage installed in all humanity and for all future generations. He also composed a comprehensive history of Muslims. EDUCATION BACKGROUND
In his detailed autobiography, Ibn Khaldun went through a traditional school system which included being taught by his father. His family’s political prominence significantly contributed to his wide range of knowledge. In his autobiography, Khaldun says that he was fond of reading books and mastered the Quran. The Quran enriched him with Muslim law and Arabic literature. He was also excellent in mathematics, and at school, he received several certificates.

His magnum opus is his only known work, a historigraphy called Al-Ibar wa Kitab al Mubtada' wa al-Khabar fi Tarikh al-Arab wa al-Ajam wa al-Barbar wa man 'asarahum min dhawi al Sultan al-Akbar. The full name in Arabic العبر و كتاب المبتدأ و الخبر في تاريخ العرب و العجم و البربر و من عاصرهم من ذوي السلطان الأكبر.
It is basically in three parts:
- Al-Muqadimah (Prolegomena), which is an extensive work on Philosophy of History, Political Theory, Sociology, Economics and Civiliation in general. In it he explains how societies and history works, and what the results of actions of people in history. He draws conclusions into laws of history.
- The history itself, from creation to his own time.
- Al-Ta'reef التعريف بابن خلدون مؤلف الكتاب ورحلته غرباً وشرقاً which is an extensive autobiography.

Ibn Khaldun: A Medieval Polymath and Pioneer
Early Life and EducationAbu Zayd Abd al-Rahman ibn Muhammad, known as Ibn Khaldun, was born in present-day Tunisia in CE. His family had emigrated from Andalusia and was deeply rooted in Islamic scholarship. Ibn Khaldun immersed himself in the study of the Quran, hadith (Prophet Muhammad's sayings), law, grammar, and poetry.
Political Career and Diplomatic Missions
After serving under Sultan Abu-Inan in Fes, Ibn Khaldun fled to Spain in due to court intrigues. There, he composed a treatise on logic and served as a negotiator between the Granadan sultan and Don Pedro of Castile. He returned to North Africa and held various administrative positions, including as a chancery secretary.
