The beauty business is a beast. It’s filled with competitors and very hard to break into — that is unless you have a niche. Jasmine Lawrence, 25, found her niche by offering natural hair products through her company EDEN BodyWorks, and she’s being doing so since she was a teenager. With the help of a $2, loan from her parents, the then-teenager launched her company, EDEN BodyWorks and made over $1 million selling her products online.
Lawrence suffered from a hair relaxer disaster at age 11, and it was then she vowed to find a solution to better hair care for natural hair. She started making products in her own home. Eventually, she came up with a product line that not only is sold at such major retailers as Wal-Mart, Sally Beauty Supply, Walgreens and Krogers but she caught the attention of Oprah Winfrey and appeared on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” in And just this year she was inducted into Forbes’ Class of 30 Under 30, not for her beauty business but for her industry expertise via the world of gaming. When I asked Jasmine Lawrence to describe herself in one word, she paused to think, but a few short seconds later she said, without a flinch, "Amazing."
Up until that point, I'd been trying to find the words to describe how this fiercely confident Black woman was able to accomplish so much by the age of She launched her first company EDEN BodyWorks at just thirteen after experiencing a personal hair loss crisis and then attending NFTE BizCamp, a student entrepreneurship program, where she was equipped with the tools that would help her find a way to create and sell a product that solved a hair problem she knew many like her needed. EDEN is now celebrating its 15th anniversary, with a repertoire of accomplishments, retail partners like Target, CVS, and Sally Beauty Supply, a loyal beauty community, and global experiences supporting the journey.

Beginning a successful business at any age is no easy feat, but the founder and CEO of EDEN BodyWorks managed to do that and more at the young age of Frustrated with products that were damaging her hair, she set out to find her own all-natural solution and in the process founded EDEN BodyWorks. Today, Jasmine's skin and hair care products have become a staple in many households around the world, and are sold at Target, Walmart, Walgreens and other major retailers. We recently caught up with the something year old CEO to find out how she built the internationally distributed company, what her future plans are, and more.
OBWS: What inspired you to begin EDEN BodyWorks and how did you get your start?
Jasmine: At a young age I had a bad reaction to chemical hair product. I couldn’t find affordable products that worked for me so I did research and developed some hair care products in my home. A few years later I went to a NFTE business camp and learned how to start a small business. I began EDEN BodyWorks to share my creations with the world. I wanted to help other people who had trouble with their hair,body and self image.
