The unnamed child made sounds during quiet moments in the show that brought shushes from surrounding audience members. But, as Loh notes in his remarks, "this post won't go the way you think it will."

Instead of upbraiding the mother for bringing the child, Loh defends the mother's courage in trying to share the show with the child, and instead upbraids the audience for lacking compassion and patience.

The incident occurred at the Vivian Beaumont Theater at Lincoln Center, just upstairs from the Mitzi Newhouse Theater where Patti LuPone snatched away a cell phone from an audience member who was creating a very different kind of distraction July 8.

Loh told that he got immediate supportive feedback from his fellow cast members, "The cast and crew—everyone at Lincoln Center has been super supportive. The cast was amazing with the idea that 'the show must go on,' and they made it very clear that it would not have bothered anyone to hit rewind on our performance if it was required. We have a lot of mothers in our cast and each one expressed their hurt and concern for what we saw that afternoon. Still—I have been contacted by some who were in the audience that afternoon and

After a boy with autism disrupted a Broadway show, this actor leapt to his defense.

Nobody needs convincing that the cartoons of yesteryear just hit different. They are miles away from the noisy, uber colorful, fast-paced (read: overstimulating) shows that a kid might watch today. And, it turns out, that they might just be superior for getting kids to actually relax.

This was a discovery made by one mom (Lauren, aka @mamasandmesses) when she introduced her toddler to old school shows like Bear and the Big Blue House, Arthur, Dragon Tales, and more. Her grand experiment led to some pretty fascinating results.

For one thing, she noted while her child enjoyed watching these programs, there was no adverse reaction when she turned them off. “He didn’t fight me or get upset, he just went back to playing!”

But perhaps even more importantly, she noticed that his sleep improved. That’s right, parents with tough-to-put-to-bed kiddos, listen up.

Lauren attributed this to the fact that, generally speaking, 90s shows had much lower stimulation, but also more heavily focused helpful lessons and creative exploration. Sure, there are still shows that do that, like

Cast Member of Broadway's 'The King and I' Defends Child Who Disrupted Performance and Inspired Audience Jeers: 'I Am Angry and Sad'

An ensemble member of Broadway’s revival of The King and I is speaking out in support of a woman whose child disrupted a matinee performance of the show on Wednesday and was compelled to leave the theater after audience complaints.

Kelvin Moon Loh, who is also an understudy in the production, wrote on Facebook after the show’s Sept. 23 matinee that a child he described as autistic left the Vivian Beaumont Theater in New York City’s Lincoln Center after becoming verbally agitated during a “whipping scene.”

“It so happened that during ‘the whipping scene,’ a rather intense moment in the second act, a child was heard yelping in the audience. It sounded like terror,” Loh wrote, and added, “His voice pierced the theater. The audience started to rally against the mother and her child to be removed. I heard murmurs of ‘why would you bring a child like that to the theater?’. This is wrong. Plainly wrong.”

Loh, who wrote “I am angry and sad,” said that the child’s mother eventually left the audience. He said that there had b
