Where is sirr parker today in history

Sirr Parker's mother named him Sirr for one reason. Yes, it's not some nickname he earned as a child or a moniker given to him by a coach. He was named Sirr to command respect.

He certainly did that with the Texas A&M Aggies. Fans in College Station remember him fondly for his legendary Big 12 Championship Game touchdown run to win the game over Kansas State. Maybe they remember any of his 19 rushing and receiving touchdowns during his four-year career at TAMU.

One Sirr Parker play that flies under the radar is his record-tying yard kickoff return against the Texas Longhorns in

Texas A&M head coach R.C. Slocum's squad traveled to Austin, Texas, to take on the University of Texas Longhorns for the final game of the regular season.

A&M rode a three-game win streak into the contest but was being walloped by an offense led by future Heisman Trophy winner and All-American Ricky Williams. By the fourth quarter, the Aggies were down with the late President George H.W. Bush and First Lady Barbara Bush on hand.

Still, Sirr Parker didn't let th

They Call Me "Sirr"

He was all but abandoned by his parents and raised in poverty by his grandparents, gang-involved cousins and other relatives in South Los Angeles.  But Sirr Parker persevered against terrible odds, and flourished as a nearly straight-A student.  And his record on the high school football team earned him a football scholarship to Texas A&M.

The movie inspired by his improbable story, "They Call Me Sirr," made its broadcast debut in , six years after the former homecoming king graduated from Locke High School.

How about this for a sequel: Parker, a college graduate, makes good on a high school vow to return to his roots to mentor at-risk kids facing the same type of hurdles?  It's playing out in real life at Los Padrinos Juvenile Detention Center in Downey, a kind of way station for youths in trouble where Parker works as a detention service officer.

Every college football legend has one game. One game to make their name household. One game — heck, even one play — is all it takes for fans to think back and say, "this is the moment he proved how great he was."

For Texas A&M University football, it isn't hard to recall when the Aggie greats cemented themselves in school lore. Johnny Manziel garnered national attention when he took down No. 1 Alabama as a freshman in Mike Evans torched Auburn in for a school-record yards and four touchdowns. Yet some Aggies, like linebacker-turned-fast-food-franchise-owner Dat Nguyen, were just flat-out dominant their entire careers.

But Nguyen did play for a team in which another Texas A&M Aggie legend was born: running back Sirr Parker, who should have his own statue outside Kyle Field in College Station after his improbable game-winning touchdown against Kansas State University captured TAMU's last conference championship in the Big 12 Championship game.

I am very selective about the television shows and movies that I watch. I’m not into suspense, horror, and chaotic reality TV. Last night I saw the movie “They Call Me Sir” for the second time. Although he managed to avoid the child welfare system, I was a bit disturbed by the portrayal of Sirr’s relationship with his aunt and her hesitance to allow him to live with her. I was also rooting for Sirr’s cousins to reconcile with their mom and leave the gang life behind.

You already know that I’m not a sports fan so it wasn’t until the end of the movie that I found out that I was watching the biography of Sirr Parker’s life – a former running back for Texas A&M University who went on to play professionally in the National Football League, the Canadian Football League, and the Arena Football League. I was glad the movie had a happy ending even though it wasn’t the one I expected.

Sirr Parker grew up in South Central Los Angeles. His family struggles included poverty, a substance abusing mother, gang-involved family members, and the death of his grandmother. Sirr spent much of his teen years caring for his younger brother. Despite his tough family life, Sirr wa
