Ardyth Brott loves a good yarn. The author, lawyer and executive director of Hamilton&#;s Brott Music Festival is an expert at filling in the back story, seizing on the smallest of details to paint vivid pictures of whatever she happens to be explaining.
&#;There&#;s nothing she doesn&#;t notice,&#; says her friend and Brott Festival colleague Jacqui Templeton-Muir. &#;What (people) eat, what they do, what they think. It&#;s all there . If she hadn&#;t been an executive director and writer, she would have been a Scotland Yard detective.&#;
Brott, 63, may appear stern or reserved at first blush but get her started on that time she broke both of her legs in Italy, or her conspiracy to marry off her son, and she becomes instantly passionate, in story mode.
She credits her mom - who, at 90, runs a Russian literature book club out of her apartment - for instilling the importance of narrative.

The Brott family has made a tremendous contribution to the Montreal classical music community as musicians, composers, conductors, teachers and orchestra leaders since the late Alexander Brott and his wife Lotte, created The McGill Chamber Orchestra in the s. Their first son Boris, inherited their combined talent, intellect and business acumen that has made him one of Canada’s most accomplished orchestra conductors. He has established a fine international reputation in music, has trained as a lawyer, and has a successful second career… as a motivational speaker.
I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Boris on several occasions, and each time I come away with the feeling that anything is possible – that with a plan, some talent and the willingness to put in the work – hard work if necessary; an individual can follow their dream and make it real.

Those were the final words of Denis Brott&#;s eulogy for his brother, renowned conductor Boris Brott, as he bowed his head in grief.
Hundreds of people attended Brott&#;s funeral at the Temple Anshe Sholom on Sunday, while countless more watched a live stream of the event celebrating Brott&#;s life.
Brott died last Tuesday after he was hit by a vehicle in Hamilton&#;s Durand neighbourhood. He was

&#;Everyone that knew Boris or was touched by him is in a state of shock — incredulous at this sudden loss,&#; he said. &#;None more so than we, his family.&#;
&#;In an awful instant, this beautiful creative life was taken before his time.&#;

An ensemble of strings, including Denis on cello, began the service with &#;Adagio For Strings&#; by Samuel Barber.
