Dokument opracowany przez grupę Rasmussen-Jermak przewiduje zawarcie umowy o wspólnym partnerstwie strategicznym, którą podpiszą kraje-gwaranty. Wśród nich miałyby znaleźć się Stany Zjednoczone, Wielka Brytania, Polska, Włochy, Niemcy, Francja, Australia, Turcja, kraje skandynawskie i bałtyckie oraz Europy Środkowo-Wschodniej.

– Jestem tutaj, aby omówić bardzo ważne zadania, które stoją przed nami. Nasze konsultacje nie mogłyby odbywać się w bardziej dogodnym momencie. Rosyjska agresja na Ukrainę – bezprawna i nieuzasadniona – to największe wyzwanie dla bezpieczeństwa europejskiego od pokoleń, dlatego też wzmacniamy nasze wysiłki związane z obronnością sojuszu, do którego należy także Polska – mówił Rasmussen w Warszawie.
Zapowiedział, że sojusz jest gotowy podjąć kroki, które polegają na wzmożonych ćwiczeniach, aktualizacji planów obronnych i na rozmieszczeniu wojsk, które mają wzmocnić bezpieczeństwo w Europie.
– Podejmujemy też działania, które mają na celu wzmocnienie Ukrainy, pomagamy w przeprowadzeniu reformy obronności tego kraju, jak również w obronie kluczowych wartości () Wysłaliśmy także jasny i wyraźny sygnał do Rosji: wasze zachowanie nie pasuje do XXI wieku, a retoryka jest przestarzała i zakorzeniona w minionych czasach zimnej wojny – dodał.
Podczas wizyty Rasmussen spotka się także z prezydentem Bronisławem Komorowskim i premierem Donaldem Tuskiem.
