Chung Ju-yung or Jung Joo-young (Korean::정주영; 25 November – 21 March ), was a South Korean entrepreneur and the founder of Hyundai Groups, one of the largest chaebols in South Korea. Raised as the eldest son of a poor Korean farmer, Chung was an integral part of the rapid development of Korea's economy, growing Hyundai Heavy Industries to be the largest shipbuilder in the world, as well as growing Hyundai Motor Group into the largest automobile manufacturer in Korea, and the third largest in the world. Chung was also a vital contributor to the development of South Korea's infrastructure after the Korean War's destruction of infrastructure, such as constructing the Gyeongbu Expressway in , connecting the capital, Seoul, to the port city of Busan, in alliance with President Park Chung Hee.

Chung Ju-yung was the eldest of seven children of a peasant couple. With limited formal education, he left his village to work as a construction worker in Seoul. In , he found work as a clerk in a small rice trading company. After four years, he purchased the store. During the Second World War, the rice business went bankrupt because of the rationing policy of the Japanese who ruled the country. He changed career by learning how to repair automobiles. When the war was over, his auto repair business boomed due to the influx of American military trucks.
