La primavera es una obra realizada por el pintor renacentista Sandro Botticelli. Data de por lo que pertenece al Quattrocento y fue encargada por Lorenzo de Pierfrancesco de Medici, para la Villa de Castello. La obra actualmente se encuentra en la galería de los Uffizi
(Florencia, Italia).
La Primavera o la Alegoría de la Primavera es una de las obras maestras de Sandro Botticelli. La técnica utilizada para su elaboración es temple sobre tabla. En esta obra el autor representa un bosque de naranjos y laureles, con un suelo repleto de vegetación propia de la Toscana que suele crecer en el mes de mayo y en el fondo el cielo azul. El bosque es ordenado y vertical, casi plano y severo, a la danza y el corro. En el centro de la composición aparece Venus, diosa del amor, la cual llama la atención del espectador al encontrarse en el centro de la composición y llevar ropajes de colores llamativos como el rojo. Estos colores tan vivos, como explicaremos después eran propios de Botticelli. La Primavera, which means “Spring” in Italian, is without a doubt the most famous painting of Sandro Botticelli. Its mysterious allure continues to dazzle audiences and baffle art historians to this day. Originally, the painting was commissioned by Lorenzo di Pierfrancesco de Medici, probably on the occasion of his marriage.
Who Were the Medici
Florence in the late 15th century was a great Italian arts center which had a booming economy as well. The Medici, a family of bankers, ruled the city. Their bank was the most powerful one in Europe, having among its clientele even the pope himself. They rose to power in with Cosimo di Medici and, with some ups and downs, maintained it until Cosimo worked to bring peace to Northern Italy and consequently brought stability and a great influence for his family over the city.
However, both the family and the city reached their apogee during Lorenzo the Magnificent’s rule, Cosimo’s grandson.
Along with the Vatican, Lorenzo was one of the main patrons of the arts during the Renaissance. He commissioned works by Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and of course Sandro Botticelli.
Características de La primavera de Botticelli
La primavera o Alegoría de la primavera () es una de las obras de Sandro Botticelli () más conocidas, junto con El nacimiento de Venus. Es una pintura de gran tamaño (x cm) que se custodia actualmente en la Galería de los Uffizi de Florencia. En ella, como veremos, se hace una alegoría, esto es, un relato utilizando símbolos, del renacer tanto físico como espiritual que supone la primavera. Y lo hace utilizando los mitos y personajes protagonistas de la cultura clásica.
La obra, a pesar de ser simbólica, está representada de una forma realista siguiendo buena parte de las características de la pintura renacentista en cuanto técnica y modelos.
Se hace un alegato a favor de la naturaleza que está tomada como un símbolo vital de gran importancia, incluso como arquetipo siguiendo la terminología de Jung.
